The lionfish while beautiful, they range in species and color. They are now considered an invasive species rapidly reproducing in the waters of the Atlantic particularly off the coasts of Florida. Beautiful in color and grace its spines are venomous. This acrylic is painted on wood cradle board.

The color in this exotic bloom was what attracted me to create a splash of petals flowing into the distinctive center. The oriental poppy's petals are showy and may be almost any color but I was particularly attracted to the rich orange blaze set against the complimentary soft green center and petals. This newborn bongo calf is Zoo Tampa's first birth in January of this year. This antelope is

a forest-dwelling and native to sub-Saharan Africa. Bongos are characterized by a striking reddish-brown coat, black and white markings, white-yellow stripes, and long slightly spiraled horns. Painted in acrylic on wood cradle board.

Painting the moment of touchdown for this pelican was my personal joy. Since moving to Florida, the pelican has been a welcome sentinel flying in formation on our shores.

Living in Florida, sailing is one of our favorite pastimes. This was a snapshot my husband caught that I found breathtaking, so I wanted to capture his image in acrylics.

The Roseate Spoonbill is a waterfowl found in mangroves and low lying marshes in Cuba and Florida spawning in community nests called spooneries. These chicks will remain in the nest for about 12-14 weeks before taking flight, but when nesting their monogamous parents will feed and protect them. Similar to flamingoes their color comes from their marine diet of shrimp.

Koalas are a family favorite at Zoo Tampa. Often mistakenly referred to as a koala bear they are not a bear at all...much like the kangaroo, they are a marsupial, meaning they carry their young in a pouch with their newborn called a "joey". This original acrylic is painted on wood cradle board.
